Important Rule I Have Learnt

I thought i'd got biceps tendonitis.   I self diagnosed 'cos i thought that's exactly what i had after looking on the web - i'd been doing more upper body exercise than usual because of the problems running - so i mentioned it to my physio when i went about the leg and she got me to bend my arm while she pushed her fingers into the biceps until she found the spot near the base close to the tendon. She then told me to slowly straighten my arm, which was like teeth-clenching F@£$%^&G OUCH!!! but she said 'micro-tears in the muscle', not tendonitis, bit of massage, bit of ultrasound and its now almost gone after only two sessions, and she said continue with gentle exercise and stretching. Even better than that i'm running 5 miles a couple of times a week and on my way to a half marathon at the weekend, and the speed is going up, except at the moment we have snow and ice over here so the roads are a bit too icy for speed.  In the new year i hope to back up into the hills.  IMPORTANT RULE  I HAVE LEARNT: always respect an injury, doesnt mean you have to stop but you must do what's right for it - rest, ice, stretch, be gentle, whatever it takes to get back up again...

Hi Skweeky,

Thanks for your comment. I had already found your blog through a comment you left for Doomedbutcheerful. I have been coming back too.

I hope you find your blogging feet soon, it does get easier lol...and there are some wonderful people out there to support you too.

Glad to hear your recent injuries have healed/are healing and good luck with getting to the half marathon distance.

When you're ready; please do get back in touch!

Good luck and best wishes,
Col

p.s. sorry about the long comment...almost as long as my posts lol :)

Respecting injuries is indeed important, whether they are of the body, mind or heart. I have also found that while the injury needs to be treated, it shouldn't be done at the expense of all else, as I am sure you are already aware ... but it IS possible to lose focus (when the back is aching, the morning is cold and dark, the trainers are on their way out ... but that 5km before sunrise makes all the difference to the day!).

For my current state of agitation, follow the link from my blog to mirroboy's blog, and you will see why.

By the way, I note Col's apprehension over long comments - as you see, I do not share the same reserve, else a 'comment' would have been labelled 'quip'!

Have a lovely day. G =]

So my shoulder has gotten worse... They say that there's impinchment now. And it's pinching a nerve that runs down my arm cuz I can feel a tingling sensation all the way down to my forearm when I move my arm.

I'm icing and stretching and exercising it every day... hopefully it'll get better.

How's yours going?
